Thomas von Stokar heads the subject field economy and society together with Susanne Stern. He is a specialist for social and economic impact analyses, evaluations as well as policy and strategy development. He primarily focuses on health care policy and social policy, regulatory policy, regional and spatial development, new media and sustainable development.

He studied Social and Economic Geography at the University of Zurich (CH). Before joining INFRAS, he was commissioned by the ETH Zurich to elaborate special studies regarding trends and effects of the new information and communication technologies.
