Sustainability is an important topic for companies and organisations - but also a challenging one. INFRAS supports companies on their way to more sustainability: Analysing the current situation, developing goals and a strategy, defining concrete measures and implementing a monitoring system.

Heavy rain, storms, drought: extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and more severe due to climate change. To systematically record and quantify the damage, the German Federal Environment Agency has commissioned INFRAS to develop a concept for a national damage register.

To mitigate the consequences of climate change, the German government is investing in measures to adapt to climate change. The amount of this expenditure was previously unknown. INFRAS has analysed the budget on behalf of the German Environment Agency and helped to develop a methodology for estimating expenditure on climate adaptation.

Climate change harbours numerous risks for our society. Building on a recent climate risk analysis, INFRAS is conducting a supplementary study to analyse the vulnerability of the Swiss population to the various consequences of climate change in greater depth.

The construction company Toggenburger wants to electrify its fleet of company cars. INFRAS analyzed the usage profiles of the company cars, made a cost estimate for the necessary charging infrastructure and developed an implementation plan to support the SME in achieving this ambitious goal.

The emissions of the city of Zurich are not only generated within the city limits. Indirect emissions are a relevant factor. INFRAS has analysed the drivers of indirect emissions for the city of Zurich - with a look at the status quo and possible scenarios.  

In the building sector, a large share of CO2 emissions are generated during the construction phase. An important lever for reducing these grey emissions are conversions instead of new replacements. INFRAS is looking for solutions on behalf of the federal government to reduce barriers to conversions and refurbishments.  

Travelling to Paris by plane, car or train? On behalf of TGV Lyria, INFRAS has calculated the environmental and accident costs as well as the carbon footprint of various modes of transport on five long-distance routes between Switzerland and France for the year 2023. 

In the course of decarbonization, the focus is also shifting to snowplows and the like. Some cantons are considering switching to fossil-free winter maintenance vehicles. INFRAS has developed the conceptual framework for the electrification of a cantonal winter service fleet.
