The 'Climate Ledger Initiative' picks up speed

Nov. 29, 2017

'On the one hand, we have climate change, one of the biggest challenges of our time. On the other hand, there is blockchain, a technology-based innovation driver with great potential. To use the advantages of an intersection of these two strands is the idea of the Climate Ledger Initiative'. This is how the initiative was presented to an audience of negotiators and climate experts at the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change COP 23 in Bonn (DE). First activities have already been launched: A research project under the lead of INFRAS shall provide information, where the hidden chances and corresponding challenges lie along the interface of climate action and blockchain. By using concrete case studies, the initiative wants to make potentials more visible and, in parallel, initiate an innovation process with several 'call outs'.
